On the Ground in Cuba With scott Noble

From June 3rd to June 10th, 2024, H2O4ALL returned to Cuba to visit our client communities there. Across the districts of Cienfuegos and Villa Clara, eighteen Assemblies of God churches benefit from safe water systems built by H2O4ALL.

As we continue installing new systems in struggling communities throughout Cuba, our success lies in the relationships we build with our partner churches. During our regular maintenance trips, volunteers check on their safe water systems, replace old components, and make sure that the systems keep providing their communities with safe water for years to come.

In this year’s maintenance trip, Canadian Field Technician Scott Noble returned to Cuba for the fourth year in a row to check on the H2O4ALL systems at our partner churches. After the trip, we were able to talk with him to get insight into the safe water initiative and the role of volunteers in sustainable water access.

Scott began volunteering at H2O4All after his local Rotaract group began working with H2O4ALL. After two years of helping H2O4ALL’s mission by fundraising for safe water projects, Scott was interested in being part of the project on the ground. In 2017, he joined H2O4ALL on a trip to Uganda, a safe water project supported by his local Rotaract group.  “I should have called gone sooner.” he says of that first project. “It surprised me how easy it was to make a difference in somebody’s life.”

Since then, Scott has been a part of three different volunteer trips to Uganda, and has made himself a regular part of Cuba’s volunteer team. When asked what he’s most proud of, he claims it’s the relationships he built on the ground: “I have friends in Cuba and Uganda. When we get together, we build some extraordinary things… You get to see the best part of people, the love and passion people have. It’s beautiful.”

After this month’s Cuba maintenance trip, Scott looks forward to working with the volunteer team again this November, when H2O4ALL will bring safe water to four more communities in the Villa Clara district. He’s proud of how the project has grown. “We were doing two projects a year when the project began, now we’re doing four. I’m excited to show new volunteers what they can do in just a week. And excited to see returning volunteers and how the experience changed their perspective.”

Scott Noble was a guest speaker for the June 2024 episode of Water Walk Talks. You can see the livestream on Youtube at the link below.
