Eight Years in Cuba

In 2015, we partnered with Assemblies of God Cuba to serve water-stressed communities in Cuba’s Cienfuegos District. Since then, fourteen churches in the Cienfuegos District have received safe water systems, providing thousands of community members with a much-needed alternative to local water sources.

For many people in Cienfuegos, these alternatives were desperately needed. Thousands of people in Cienfuegos City rely on the city’s public water system, which is outdated and unsafe for drinking. Meanwhile, many smaller communities outside the city rely on unprotected water sources instead of running water. This water leaves community members vulnerable to cholera and other waterborne diseases, especially young children.

However, thanks to our partnerships with AoG churches, thousands of Cienfuegos residents now have a safe, clean, and reliable alternative to their old water sources. By partnering with local churches, we maximize the number of community members we can reach while also empowering churches to serve their communities.

Last November, we broke new ground in Cuba as we expanded the project to the neighbouring district of Villa Clara. Volunteer teams from Canadian construction companies and the International Fellowship of Canada implemented four safe water systems in Villa Clara churches, ensuring safe water access and a better quality of life for hundreds  of Villa Clara residents.
