Uganda | Safe Water for Lusera Village

This month, we’re returning to Uganda to bring safe water to Lusera Village in Kyabologo Parish. For this safe water initiative, we’ll be implementing a safe water system at the village’s ROTOM Outreach Centre.

Currently, more than 4,000 Kyabologo residents are struggling to get by without safe water access. since very few people in the community have access to a functioning borehole, most people rely on unprotected ponds and swamps. The daily trips required to find water are a burden on many families – especially the community’s older adults. Meanwhile, outbreaks of waterborne diseases are a frequent problem for the community.

…For older people, it is often a daily struggle to find water for their families; the daily trips for water are exhausting and often dangerous. As a result, seniors are often forced to ration water, leaving them and their grandchildren more vulnerable to disease.

In Lusera, ROTOM’s Village Outreach Centre provides medical care and financial support to over a hundred older adults and their grandchildren. The new water system will empower the Outreach Centre to provide safe and effective medical care, as well as provide a reliable safe water source close to home for thousands of people in the community.
